My first workaway was on an organic farm outside of Pak Chong, which is 3 hours away from Bangkok.
For those aren't familiar with workaway.info, it’s a website where you can find lots of projects in countries all over the world. You volunteer in a project in exchange for accommodation and meals provided by the host of the project you picked. There are all sorts of different projects, you could help at a farm, a hostel, teach at a school, babysit children, teach a yoga, etc. All depends on the country and what you have to offer. Other than getting the opportunity to do things you might not get a chance to do back home (where else would I pick fruits and make jam?), workaway is a great way to get a closer look on a foreign country while staying with hosts and being able to travel for a longer time since you won’t be spending money on accommodation.
A 3-hour train ride to Pak Chong and oddly enough I bought a ticket to the 3rd class with no AC because one website said that opening the windows and enjoying the view is a bonus point and it was! The thrill I felt during that ride and the happiness of knowing I’m going to start and try out a different experience and something that I’ve been wanting to do for a while ever since I found out about workaway. It adds a different aspect to one’s journey.
Also, I’d like to thank the old man who helped me cross that boss-level intersection to Hua Lamphong railway station :3 حاجة كمان، إمتى المترو عندنا ممكن يبقى نضيف زي الدرجة التالتة اللي أنا فيها دي؟
